What is RTI?

In the context of schools, RTI stands for Response to Intervention. It is an educational strategy used to identify and support students who are struggling academically or behaviorally. RTI is a tiered approach, where students receive increasing levels of support depending on their needs.

Here’s how it typically works:

  1. Tier 1: All students receive high-quality instruction and support in the general education classroom. Teachers monitor progress and use data to identify students who might need additional help.

  2. Tier 2: Students who are identified as needing more support receive small-group interventions, often in addition to regular classroom instruction. These interventions are more targeted and may focus on specific skills or areas of need.

  3. Tier 3: For students who continue to struggle despite Tier 2 interventions, more intensive and individualized support is provided. This could involve one-on-one instruction or specialized programs.

RTI helps to prevent academic failure by addressing issues early, ensuring that students get the help they need before they fall too far behind. It also helps educators make data-driven decisions about how to best support each student
