Parenting Tips

1. BE SURE TO CREATE “FAMILY TIME”

STOP AND TALK ABOUT WHAT YOU’D LIKE TO DO AS A FAMILY AND SPEND TIME WITH YOUR CHILDREN (FAMILY DINNERS, BEDTIME STORIES,TRIPS TO THE PARK)

2. PREPARE FOR A GREAT

PARENT-TEACHER CONFERENCE

MAKE A LIST OF THINGS TO TELL THE TEACHER ABOUT YOUR CHILD (INTERESTS, STRENGTHS, CHALLENGES, ETC.)

3. HELP YOUR CHILD CREATE A WORD BANK

WHEN WRITING A STORY – THIS WILL ALLOW YOUR CHILD TO THINK OF WORDS IN ADVANCE AND MAKE IT EASIER FOR THEM TO WRITE.

4. USE WORDS TO UNDERSTAND MATH!

WRITING NUMBERS OUT IN WORD FORM IS  A GOOD WAY FOR YOUR CHILD TO UNDERSTAND “PLACE VALUE.”

GIVE YOUR CHILD A LIST OF 3-4 NUMBERS (EX. 16, 73, 184 AND 562) AND HAVE THEM WRITE SIXTEEN, SEVENTY THREE AND SO ON.

5. REPORT CARDS

REVIEW REPORT CARDS TOGETHER HELP YOUR CHILD SEE THE LINK BETWEEN HIS/HER EFFORTS AND SUCCESS.

IS STUDYING PAYING OFF?

6. CURE TEST ANXIETY WITH PREPARATION!

GIVE YOUR CHILD A QUIET STUDY SPACE AND ENCOURAGE THEM TO SPREAD STUDY TIME OUT OVER SEVERAL DAYS, INSTEAD OF CRAMMING. MAKE SURE HE/SHE GETS ENOUGH SLEEP

AND SEND THEM OUT THE DOOR WITH  “I KNOW YOU WILL DO WELL!”
